How to Fix an Extremely Slow Computer
When you first get your computer, it runs smoothly. However,
after awhile, you may find yourself with an extremely slow computer. How does the change come about that turns
your fast computer into a slow one? Even if you didn't purchase the cheapest model out there, instead opting
for a fifteen, perhaps twenty hundred, dollar model, you still find that your computer doesn't run even nearly
as well as when you first set it up.
There are several factors that contribute to extremely slow computers, so instead of reinstalling Windows out of
frustration, practice some of these tips to keep your pc operating as smoothly as possible.

Hard Drive and OS Maintenance
If you have an extremely slow computer, the first thing that you'll need to try is to clean up your hard
drive and organize it. Windows has two handy tools you can use for this.
The first one is The Disk Cleanup utility that can be found by going to your Start Menu > All Programs >
Accessories > System Tools. This tool deletes some temporary and unnecessary files from your pc to free up space
on your hard drive, improving its speed.
The second one is The Disk Defragmentation utility, which can also be found in your System Tools folder, and it
puts the files on your hard drive into order so that your computer can find them faster.
That may not be sufficient for extremely slow computers though. You will also need to scan for unwanted malware
that your computer might have picked up by surfing the net.
Combined with smart browsing techniques (not giving important information away to sites you don't trust),
security software like McAfee or free programs like Ad-Aware and SpyBot can be very useful in removing unwanted
malware from your computer. Not only does malware slow down your computer by taking up space, some malicious
malware is designed to steal your passwords or even delete your hard drive's files.
Moreover, there may be a problem with your operating system's registry. The registry is your computer's library
card catalog. It instructs your computer where to find programs, what files are opened by what programs, and the
like. Extremely slow computers may be slow because of registry errors, but these errors are also a common cause of
pc crashes and basically having things to work not the way they should on your computer.
With an extensive database of the most effective organization or registry, registry scanners will look at your
computer's registry and determine the best way to optimize it in order to improve your computer's speed and
stability.
